Synergism of Amines and Antagonism of Reserpine to Morphine Analgesia

Abstract
Reserpine antagonizes the analgetic effect of morphine, meperidine and codeine in mice. 5-Hydroxytryptophane, 5-hydroxytryptamine, tryptamine, amphetamine, mescaline and epinephrine enhance and prolong morphine analgesia, whereas iproniazid and choline-p-tolyl-ether fail to do so. Tryptophane and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid do not influence morphine-induced analgesia. Mechanism involved in the synergistic action of amines and the antagonistic action of reserpine on morphine analgesia are discussed.
