MANOMETRIC GAS ANALYSIS AS AN INDEX OF MICROBIAL OXIDATIONS AND REDUCTIONS IN SOIL

Abstract
A manometric procedure for the determination of microbial oxidations and reductions in soil is described. The results indicate that over-all microbial activity in treated and non-treated test soils may be accurately evaluated by oxygen consumption values and oxygen depletion points. It is also shown that active gas loss via denitrification may be detected manometrically by measurement of gas evolution following oxygen depletion.
