Abstract
IT is well known that bacteremia may be induced by dental or urologce manipulation and that, in the presence of valvular or endocardial abnormalities, bacterial endocarditis may follow. The reported prevalence of bacteremia after dental extraction has varied from 17 to 83 per cent.1 , 5 Corresponding figures for transurethral prostatic resection have ranged from 12 to 45 per cent.6 , 7 Antibiotic prophylaxis has been widely used in connection with dental procedures.
