Abstract
A Structural Approach for the Input-Output Analysis : A First Appraisal. The structural approach introduced by R. Lantner (1974) and J. Gazon (1976) has been used several times in order to go further than the traditional analysis of input-output tables. This paper shows that within such a framework, the contribution of the structural approach is basically twofold. Firstly, a path analysis of the economic influence allows to understand precisely the mechanisms which, given a variation of the final demand to a sector of production, induce changes in the production level of other sectors. Secondly, a measure of the circularity, i.e. the phenomena of circuit, helps to apprehend the level of integration of an economic structure. In order to illustrate the practicability of these structural concepts they have been applied to input-output tables of five E.E.C. countries.
