Abstract
A rapid, sensitive method suitable for the quantitative determination of ethisterone, methyltestosterone, testosterone, and progesterone is described. The method involves the extraction of the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones of the steroid from the excess dinitrophenylhydrazine reagent with cyclohexane and measurement of the absorbance of the resulting yellow cyclohexane extract. The method has been used in the analysis of a number of tablets and aqueous suspensions containing a mixture of one of these Δ4-3-ketosteroids and other ingredients.
