Urinary tract infection

Abstract
In recent years, recommendations for the management of urinary tract infection have changed with regard to what constitutes a documented infection, when cultures are required, how to treat, and how to conduct follow-up. Dr Forland summarizes currently used diagnostic methods as well as treatment protocols for specific conditions (ie, uncomplicated infection, acute and chronic pyelonephritis, asymptomatic bacteriuria, prostatitis, recurrent infection, and the presence of indwelling catheters).
