Abstract
The application of a three-phase 120°-gated forced commutated thyristor inverter as a regenerative rectification circuit is discussed. The circuit has the ability to accept or deliver dc current without change of nominal dc voltage magnitude or polarity and also has the capability to instantaneously change from ``motoring'' to ``generating'' and vice versa. An analysis of the circuit is undertaken to provide both the current waveforms and the regulation characteristic, which are compared with those of a conventional rectifier. Theoretical results are compared with those obtained from a laboratory working prototype.Keywords
