Abstract
A review of 64 references, concerning the characteristics of blood stream clearance as determined by peripheral blood cultures, host mechanisms which remove bacteria from circulation during initial rapid phase of clearance, persistence or reappearance of bacteremia and factors which act to alter host clearing mechanisms.
