Abstract
The classical way to express resolution can not be used as measure for the separation in the case of tailing peaks or peaks with strongly varying peak heights. A number of different expressions for resolution are evaluated with respect to peak overlap, i.e. the classical resolution, resolution based on the individual peak widths, resolution based on the first and second moments, the discrimination factor and an adjusted resolution which determines the peakwidth relative to the second peak. Attention is given to the application of these expressions for prediction of overlap in subsequent chromatograms, used in interpretive optimization techniques. Keywords
