Abstract
Of 12 cases of staphylococcal septicemia treated with sulfathiazole or sulfamethylthiazole, 8 recovered. The 4 patients who died all had acute staphylococcal endocarditis confirmed by autopsy. During the 6 yrs. preceding the introduction of the thiazole derivatives of sulfanilamide, 27 cases of staphylococcal septicemia were treated by various methods in the Cincinnati General Hospital; mortality rate was 85.2%.Keywords
