Abstract
The equations of motion for the flow of a non-Newtonian fluid between two infinite plates, one of which is rotating and the other is at rest, have been solved approximately. It is found that under certain conditions depending on the distance d between the plates and the angular velocity Ω, the non-rotating plate experiences a suction, but when d is decreased sufficiently it experiences a thrust. In the case of Newtonian fluids the non-rotating plate always experiences suction.
