CHOLINESTERASE IN NORMAL AND ABNORMAL HUMAN SKELETAL MUSCLE

Abstract
The classical motor end-plate is the only structure in muscle containing an appreciable amount of non-specific cholinesterase. These structures also contain eserine-sensitive cholinesterase. Acetyl cholinesterase-positive structures are present in musculotendinous junctions. In extreme fiber atrophy cholinesterase-containing structures seem to exert a protective influence on muscle fibers. An increase in the cholinesterase of muscle substance is associated with atrophic necrosis.
