The specific carbohydrate of the tubercle bacillus

Abstract
Long''s medium was used, as devised by Douglas for growing the organism. Methods of isolation are described. Hydrolysis with 2.5% H2SO4 for 3 hrs. or with dilute oxalic acid for 12 hrs. yielded mannose, d-arabinose, galactose and a mixture of acids. The acids yielded mannose almost exclusively when treated with N H2SO4 for a long time.
