Gaucher’s Disease in a Negro: Report of Case

Abstract
A case of Gaucher''s disease is reported in a 21-year-old female Negro. The patient had menorrhagia and other bleeding tendencies, and a mass in the left side of the abdomen. There was hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, profound anemia, low blood cholesterol and albuminuria. X-ray films of humeri showed typical decalcification. 19 months after the first admission for bleeding, the patient died in markedly anemic and cachectic state. The spleen weighed 3450 g. and the liver 2950 g. A tuberculous peritonitis and oophoritis were also present. There was almost complete replacement of the liver, spleen, bone marrow, and abdominal lymph nodes by Gaucher cells.
