A Method for Rearing the Lettuce Root Aphid, Pemphigus bursarius

Abstract
Because the lettuce root aphid, Pemiphigus bursarius was to be used in a vector study, a chamber was designed to rear and facilitate collection of the aphids frame. The top frame containing soil and lettuce plants was placed into the bottom frame. Roots grew through an aluminum screen attached to the lower surfaces of the top frame into the bottom frame area. Aphids reproduced rapidly on these roots and when the top frame was lifted out and set on end, collection of the aphids could be accomplished with ease.
