BODY RIGHTING AND RELATED PHENOMENA IN THE DOMESTIC DUCK (ANAS BOSCAS)

Abstract

Some static and stato-kinetic reflexes are analogous to reflexes found in other birds (e.g., the fowl) but some are peculiar to the duck. Postural apnea and submergence apnea were found to be distinctly different in origin, the former in no way reinforcing the latter. Postural apnea may be maintained 15-30 min. under favorable conditions, enough to kill some ducks.
