Comment on Direct Lepton Production

Abstract

Recent data on observations of direct leptons produced in proton-proton collisions are analyzed. It is found that the large bulk of the data can be accounted for if the origin of the leptons is a low-mass, $\sim \left(1\mathrm{} \mathrm{ot} 5\right)m_{\pi }$, vector meson which decays weakly into $\mu +\nu$ and $e+\nu$ symmetrically. The proposed object is produced and decays with a cross section times branching ratio of ${10}^{-3\mathrm{}}$ of the pion production cross section.
