Abstract
The tissue was rapidly freeze-dried, homogenized and subjected to differential centrifugation in sucrose solutions of Sp. gr. 1.025 - 1.176. Nuclear preparations were examined for purity under the microscope; preparations which contained 80-90% nuclei were used for chemical analysis. The total lipid content of nuclei from the cerebral cortex was 5%, of the cerebellar cortex 10% of total solid matter. Analyses were carried out for phospholipid, choline, plasmal, neuraminic acid, carbohydrate and cholesterol. Nuclei from cerebral cortex contained relatively more cephalin and less lecithin than nuclei from the cerebellar cortex; otherwise the composition of the lipoid fractions was similar.
