Abstract
The infrared spectra of the molecules of HgI2, CdCl2, CdBr2, CdI2, ZnI2, ZnBr2, and ZnCl2 have been observed in the region of the fundamental frequency of the antisymmetric stretching motion. A comparison is made between the bond stretching force constants of these molecules together with HgCl2 and HgBr2 and the force constants of the related diatomic monohalides. As a group the dihalides exhibit different trends in their force constants than the monohalides. Keywords
