Abstract
In an effort to balance studies of leadership that focus exclusively on leaders, a model representing a normative perspective on organizational leadership is offered. The model posits that the normative structure of an organization consists of, among other components, members' perceptions of conditions necessitating leadership, the extent to which these conditions are present, and members' beliefs about what leaders' intentions should be and how they should go about realizing their intentions. It is hoped that the model can lead to a greater understanding of the role of organization members in shaping organizational leadership.
