Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to review the effects of heat and cold on body fluids, with strong emphasis on the responses of man. Regarding seasonal variations the authors find lack of general agreement, because too many factors escape control. In controlled temperature studies, adaptations are found to acute heat stress, prolonged heat stress, and prolonged heat stress with work, which leads to acclimatization. The authors review work on cold in the same pattern. Finally they summarize some of the unanswered questions which have been raised. Keywords
