Abstract
Associated with the stability limit of the liquid phase, we find a soft mode with purely imaginary frequency at a wave vector corresponding to the first peak of the structure factor. The corresponding critical fluctuations show up in neutron-scattering experiments as the de Gennes narrowing of the quasielastic peak. Keywords
