Usefulness of photic stimulation in routine clinical electroencephalography

Abstract
Photic stimulation accompanying routine clinical EEGs provides useful correlating data. Of the 1326 patients studied the results of photo stimulation were helpful in at least 15% of the abnormal cases and in an additional 6% with bilateral abnormalities the data provided evidence for the side maximally involved. No degree of driving was seen in 33% of all records while 29% showed good or excellent driving. It is suggested that correlation of photic responses and EEG abnormalities become a routine procedure.
