K+pInteractions at 2 BeV/c—Elastic Scattering and Total Cross Sections

Abstract
Study of 1.96-BeV/c K+p interactions in the Brookhaven 20-in. liquid-hydrogen bubble chamber has yielded a measurement of the elastic-scattering cross section σ=7.5±0.7 mb. A fit to the differential cross section versus momentum transfer of the form σ0eαt gives, for the interval 0.01 (BeVc)2<t<0.60 (BeVc)2, α=3.1±0.3 (BeV/c)2, and σ0=4.8±0.5 mb/sr. The total cross section obtained is 19.4±2.0 mb with single-pion production dominant.
