Glycogen

Abstract
Glycogen was isolated from the bodies of Helix pomatia after removal of the albumin glands. No contaminating polysaccharides were found. Galactogen is evidently confined to the albumin gland. By the method of end-group assay the chain length was estimated at 11-12 units, compared with 18 in Mytilus edulis, the only other known value for molluscan glycogen. The glycogen of Helix, its acetate and the corresponding methylated compound, showed no significant differences from similar products obtained from Other sources.
