Observations on Salivary Lactobacillus Counts for a Period Before and After Topical Applications of Two Per Cent Sodium Fluoride

Abstract
77 children, aged 7-9 and 14-16 yrs., were divided into exptl. and control groups. The exptl. groups received 4 topical applns. of 2% NaF, the first preceded by an oral prophylaxis. The control received only an oral prophylaxis. Salivary lactobacillus counts taken before and at intervals after the treatments for 1 yr. for the 14- to 16-yr. age group, and for 2 yrs. for the 7- to 9-yr. age group, showed no consistent differences; no changes were observed in the salivary lactobacillus counts of the exptl. group that were not of an order equal to those of the control groups.
