THE EFFECTS OF SODIUM DEPRIVATION ON THE ANIMAL ORGANISM

Abstract
Restriction of young rats after weaning to a diet containing only 0.002% Na but otherwise adequate produces a characteristic fatal symptom-complex which comprises retarded growth, disturbances of the eyes and of the oestrous rhythm and reproductive processes. These disturbances are different from those produced by vitamin A deficiency. Postmortem examinations showed that practically all the tissues are affected by Na deprivation.
