THE CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF GALLOP RHYTHM IN HYPERTENSION

Abstract

Gallop rhythm was found in 37 of 100 patients with hypertension. The gallops were classified as indeterminate, rapid filling, and auricular. Poor correlation was shown between gallop rhythm and the degree of heart disease as judged by blood pressure, heart size, degree of cardiac failure and ecg. abnormality. Miles concluded that gallop rhythm is of little value in prognosis, because it occurs in a wide range of clinical conditions.
