Factors Modifying the Lifespan of Mice

Abstract
Feeding a high-fat diet throughout life appreciably shortened the lifespan of male mice of both strains C57BL and DBA, more marked in the former. The mortality rate of C57 virgin females was normally higher than that of C57 males, but feeding the virgin females a high fat ration throughout life did not shorten their lifespan. The injurious effect of the high fat diet on longevity seems to be at least partly independent of the overwt. observed in some of these mice.Keywords
