Taste thresholds of 47 subjects were determined for: P.T.C. (phenyl-thio-carbamide), quinine sulfate, opto-chin base, strychnine sulfate, cascara, antipyrine, arbutin, esculin, strophanthin, picric acid, HC1, aspirin, sucrose, saccharin, NaCl, KCl, and vanillin. The distribution of thresholds showed the greatest spread in the case of P.T.C, where it ranged from 1:312.5 to 1:280,000 and formed a bimodal curve. The following low thresholds were recorded: 1:2,560,000 for quinine sulfate and strophanthin and 1:5,120,000 for optochin base. Correlation between acuteness of taste for 2 substances, though generally positive, is relatively low. Fifteen of the 47 subjects were in the most acute grade for at least 1 substance, while in the poorest grade for some other substance.
