Effect of Sodium Monofluoroacetate on Multiplication of Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis Virus.

Abstract
Na fluorocetate produced no direct (in vitro) effect on the virus of Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis, nor did previous treatment of mice with this chemical alter the susceptibility of the animals to infection with the virus. However, a consistent increase in the survival time of treated mice over control animals could be noted whether the infecting inoculum contained 30,300 or 3000 LD50 of the virus. "Growth curves" of the virus increase in the brain tissues of treated and control animals showed a definite depression of the virus proliferation during the 1st two-thirds of the virus incubation period and was especially marked by the 24-hr. period. However, the virus content of the 2 groups were comparable by the 36-hr. period, at which time all animals had definite symptoms of infection.
