Neutron Inelastic Scattering

Abstract
Neutron inelastic scattering cross sections of Fe, Al, Cr, Ni, Pb, and Bi have been measured with ∼20-kev resolution for neutron energies between 0 and 2.7 Mev. A gamma-ray spectrometer measured the monoenergetic gamma rays emitted by the excited nucleus. The cross sections are in agreement with predictions based on the Hauser-Feshbach theory. The energies of the first few excited states of the stable nuclei were found to be in good agreement with values obtained by other means.
