Laboratory and Clinical Studies of Some Quinol Diphosphates and Related Compounds as Chemical Radiosensitizers and the Development of a Radioactive Drug (Part 1 of 4)

Abstract
This paper is an account of the investigation of chemical radiosensitizers and the development of a radioactive drug. About 170 compounds were studied. The best chemical radiosensitizer is tetrasodium 2-methyl-I 4-naphthaquinol diphosphate, Synkavit (Compound I). Compound I is also the carrier molecule in the tritiated drug. An account is given of clinical investigations and associated laboratory studies, with particular reference to the use of preparations of tetrasodium 2-methyl-I: 4-naphthaquinol (6-T) diphosphate (TRA 72).
