Abstract
A general theory is presented suggesting that the unwinding of the DNA molecule starts in the middle. This concept may be applied to complete, partial, and infinitesimal unwinding. The time of complete unwinding of a DNA molecule of 2 x 104 turns, corresponding to the T2 bacteriophage genome was calculated. Keywords
