The protoporphyrin normally present in sheep''s liver was isolated and converted into a mesoporphyrin (M.P 211-213[degree]) identical with mesoporphyrin IX. It is therefore a series III derivative and cannot be the source of the coproporphyrin I found in traces in normal urine.
