THE TREATMENT OF ACROMEGALY

Abstract
This article reviews the treatment and follow-up of 29 patients with acromegaly seen prior to 1945. The detection of active acromegaly is discussed and the importance of serum inorganic phosphate detns. in this connection is emphasized. Most of the patients in this series were treated with X-rays, a few by surgery, while the remainder were not treated. Changes in the size of the sella were frequently noted after therapy. A reduction in serum in- organic P occurred after X-ray therapy in recent cases. Treatment of complications is discussed.
