The Origin of Lung Cysts in Childhood

Abstract

Very few lung cysts have been recorded in stillborn or newborn infants, but it has been generally assumed that most cysts cases are due to congenital malformation. A number of cases, observed over many years, are reviewed and the etiology of the cysts discussed. Most lung cysts are acquired as a result of bronchial inflammation and obstruction; very few are truly congenital in origin.
