Structure of the c(22) coverage of Cl on Ag(100): A controversy resolved by surface extended x-ray-absorption fine-structure spectroscopy

Abstract
By performing surface extended x-ray-absorption fine-structure measurements, we have resolved the discrepancies between previously reported results for the adsorbate-substrate bond length in Ag(100)c(2×2)-Cl. The Cl atoms form a simple overlayer occupying the fourfold hollows of the silver surface with a Cl-Ag distance of 2.69±0.03 Å, in agreement with a published low-energy electron diffraction study, though with greater precision.
