The α-ThSi2 type intermetallic compound CePtSi is found to be a heavy fermion system with the electronic specific heat coefficient γ≃700mj/mole·deg2. The electrical resistivity, the magnetic susceptibility and the specific heat measurements suggest a nonmagnetic ground state.
