Methotrimeprazine was evaluated as an analgesic agent in patients suffering from postoperative or postpartum pain. By injection, the drug provided pain relief comparable to that achieved with similar doses of morphine. Orally administered methotrimeprazine, on the other hand, produced no more pain relief than a placebo at dosages which caused a significant incidence of untoward effects.
