REABSORPTION OF BROMIDE BY THE KIDNEY

Abstract
A simple and accurate modification of the gold chloride method for bromides is described. The total halide re absorbed, rather than the chloride or bromide separately, is related to the water reabsorbed. The ratio bromide: chloride reabsorbed is detd. by the ratio bromide:xhloride filtered, but exceeds it[long dash]except when there is practically complete reabsorption of both ions. An equation relating the 2 ratios is given. The % bromide reabsorbed is a function of the % chloride reabsorbed, the absolute amt. of chloride reabsorbed, and the amt. of bromide filtered. These findings can be explained on the assumption that bromide is reabsorbed somewhat more rapidly than chloride.
