The Blind and Visually Handicapped Mentally Retarded: Suggestions for Intervention in Infancy

Abstract
Presents a rationale for implementing early transdisciplinary intervention in behalf of blind and visually handicapped, mentally retarded infants. A program that stresses normal developmental goals, a holistic approach to the child and family, and techniques for enhancing the development of the child's reflexes and gross motor skills; sensory, cognitive and fine motor skills; language; and affective personality and independence. The roles of professionals and parents receive special emphasis.
