The Calcium and Magnesium Content in the Hemolymph of Certain Insects

Abstract
There is a relative stability of the Ca/Mg ratio in the hemolymph of an insect sp. No apparent phylogenetic relationships exist with regard to the Ca/Mg ratios but rather the differences in concns. of Ca and Mg and the Ca/Mg ratio are correlated with dietary habits, the Ca/Mg ratio increasing in the orders Phytophaga < Pantophaga < Harpactophaga < Hematophaga. The Phytophaga analyzed possess Ca/Mg ratios of less than unity.
