Supervisory and Monitor Systems

Abstract
A survey of the development of executive systems, covering very primitive as well as more refined concepts, is presented. It is arranged chronologically, from the early 1950's through the present time, and is based upon representative systems of each period which were in active use at several installations and which implicitly defined the then existing state-of-the-art. The material is presented in a progression from the very simple to the most complex developments, in the same way they occurred during the period considered.
