Synthesis and structure of the distorted octahedral palladium(II) complex [Pd(tmpp)2][BF4]2[tmpp = tris(2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl)phosphine]

Abstract

The brick-red Pd^II complex [Pd(tmpp)₂][BF₄]₂ is isolated from the reaction of [Pd(NCCH₃)₄][BF₄]₂ and tmpp (tris(2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl)phosphine)(2 equiv.) in acetone at –44 °C; the new phosphine compound constitutes a rare example of a distored octahedral Pd^II compound and exhibits the shortest Pd–L_ax distances reported to date for six-coordinate Pd^II complexes.
