Abstract
A rapid microtechnic for the detn. of the reduction of nitrate by bacteria is described. The technic, in comparison with the commonly employed methods, is simple to perform, reduces the incubation period, and is more economical in media and reagents. The use of large inocula and small amts. of media makes it possible to obtain results within 15 min. when the test tubes and medium are preheated, and when young cultures are used for inocula. No false reactions were observed with 25 test organisms representative of 13 bacterial genera.
