Purulent Constrictive Pericarditis Caused by Nocardia asteroides

Abstract
A case of acute purulent constrictive pericarditis due to infection with N. asteriodes, in a previously healthy man, is presented with a description of nocardiosis and a review of the pertinent literature since 1960. The diagnosis of nocardiosis may be difficult and obscure. Treatment should include surgical drainage of abscesses, and a prolonged course of sulfonamide therapy. Pericardiectomy is strongly recommended when purulent or constrictive pericarditis is suspected.
