VIABILITY AND INFECTIVITY OF MICROORGANISMS IN EXPERIMENTAL AIRBORNE INFECTION

Abstract
A review of 13 references dealing with the many factors which should be considered in evaluating and correlating data obtained from experimentally produced airborne infections. In general, the important aspects of airborne infections to be considered are: 1) effects of pre-aerosolization treatment on cells; 2) effects of aerosolization per se; and 3) effects of postaerosolization environment. In addition, there is considerable discrepancy between the behavior of parasites under natural conditions as compared to laboratory conditions.
