Selective Degeneration of Specific Granules of Eosinophils: Report of a Case

Abstract
Degenerative alteration of eosinophilic granules in a patient receiving various treatments for rheumatoid arthritis is described. Cytochemical and electron microscopic studies of the eosinophils from the peripheral blood showed that both the external and internal components of the granules were affected. Cytochemical observation of the bone marrow revealed similar alterations in the mature eosinophils, whereas the immature cells appeared normal. It is suggested that this abnormality was drug-induced.
