Abstract
The absorption spectra of methanol, ethanol, isobutanol, tert-amyl alcohol, and octanol-2 were studied in the wavelength region of the first harmonic of the O—H vibration. The data obtained were used in each case to calculate the number of monomers combined to form an association polymer and the equilibrium constant for the association reaction in carbon tetrachloride solution. It was found for all alcohols studied that the association number was between three and four.
